| Fish Acclimation Procedure |
When introducing fish to a new aquarium for the first time, or adding new fish to an existing system, it is important to acclimate them to the new conditions. Allowing new fish to slowly adjust to the new temperature and water conditions reduces stress and helps avoid outbreaks of disease. Observe new fish closely for health and compatibility. Monitor water quality and be ready to act if problems arise.
|
1. Float fish bags for 10 minutes.
2. Add a small volume of aquarium water to the bag (10% of the volume of water in the bag). Care should be taken to keep bag water out of the aquarium. TIP - clip the bag to the side of the aquarium with a clothes pin.
3. After 10 minutes add another small volume of water as above.
4. Pour off as much water as possible into a bucket. Gently slide fish into the aquarium. Keep bag water from entering the aquarium. Always observe new arrivals for compatibility. |

When adding lion fish or other dangerous species, simply pour
bag contents into aquarium after additions of tank water.
Once the new fish is introduced, feed the other fish
to distract them from the new inhabitant. |
